“Grief is in the hearts of those who are left behind, but is our love that keeps us moving forward”
Don’t let silence have the last word.
@suicideandco
It has been one amazing ride, but sadly the Matey Shop will be closing due to lease end. October 12th 2024.
Owning a shop has been unlike anything I have done before, filled with meeting incredible people along the way.
Don’t get me wrong it has been very stressful but it has been worth every second.
The team and I are under a rock and a hard place at this moment. We want to have a shop open in Aylesbury, we want to keep the momentum going that the shop brings. However timing and placement is key to running a shop as a whole. Shops are either too small or too expensive at this time. I want to make this clear that we will have another premises. When is unclear unfortunately.
We have many plans to keep momentum going that we feel will be great to introduce.
I want to say from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Without you all we couldn’t have made this happen in the first place. 💚
Although it is disappointing to see this shop close, I see it as a step forward into Matey’s future. Who knows what the next 6 months will hold. Bigger and better things.
All the best

Trigger Warning*
I spent a long time deciding whether I should post this footage, but I need to practice what I preach, and I hope this can encourage someone to speak out about their mental health.
Stay safe. You do matter.
“I hope you can learn from my mistakes and find comfort that you are not alone”
Life had no colour. Hearing was diluted. Catching my breath was a battle. Physical pain was prevalent. I felt trapped. It was just me and my own thoughts. On top of carrying a false persona that I was living my best life. From family, friends and colleagues. Everyone in fact. Going the extra mile to hide what was truly happening.
Panic attacks became habitual, and pain was prevalent. Days became weeks, weeks to months and even years. My time was running out with the suffering I was experiencing.
I took a leap of faith and as last act of hope I reached out for help. It was the best decision I had ever made. Slowly but surely, life had colour. Hearing became clear. Catching my breath seemed natural. Physical pain was vanishing. I felt safe again. The voices in my head were dissipating and getting quieter.
I understand that in my journey meditations, doctor visits, and therapy was essential to my recovery, however communication is the sole reason I am still breathing today. Why I now devote my life to breaking the stigma. It was a scary time. Feeling alone and isolated. Dialogue is the way we all move forward from mental health struggles. Making it a normal conversation to talk about and opening up when we do need help is where we begin the recovery process to a better more fulfilled life.
Never feel ashamed to ask for help. It is how we grow.

I want to make this very clear that Matey will always be available and we are not going to disappear of the face of the earth! However I feel transparency is key.
What we are facing as a team is a lot of strain and overall stress. Individually I work a full time job, balance my own personal life and run a company. It’s hard work. I have put a lot of responsibility on friends and family members to get Matey through this hard time.
Some slight changes will be coming as a result, to get us through to bigger and better things.
The food menu needs to be reimagined. We will however still be selling cakes and bake goods, iced coffee, hot drinks, and SMOOTHIES!
Staff changes will also need to be looked into. More updates on socials soon.
Slight tweaks to the opening hours too. We will make this transparent when and if changed.
As a whole, the community we are building and growing is amazing and I appreciate each and every one of you. I need to put things in place now to make sure we can progress to the next steps and keep Matey going during this time.
Although it is hard. I will continue my absolute most to keep this boat afloat.

Dan simms is running the width of Wales (235KM) for Males Mental Health donating the money raised to @mateyclothing & @youre_never_alone_mmh
Dan posted, "Did you know in the UK that every 2 hours a man takes his own life? From ex servicemen to men with bad upbringings to men living through trauma to everyday men that you think are just ‘fine and normal’. After losing 2 friends to suicide myself, I decided to walk from Caldicot to Amsterdam a few months back, but I was never gonna just stop there. That was only the start. Now, I want to challenge myself running instead of walking, so this is officially my next mission to spread awareness for men’s mental health."

Day 7 - Newport to Chepstow Riverbank - 28.8km (2nd June)
Dan also said, "Please message me if you want to join in at any stage, and we can arrange it! There’s gonna be loads of people at the finish line in Chepstow, and together, we are going to make a difference." @dansimmsstrong

547 days ago, Matey started with a small box of clothes and an idea. 547 days later, and take a look at what WE have built together.
Growing a company is tough work. But not one day goes by where i do not feel so unbelievably privileged to do what i do. Every week, new faces come through the Matey shop, and dialogue develops into journeys, which bring a new perspective on just why i began in the first place. I appreciate you all so much.
Matey isn't just a brand. It is a growing community fighting for the same thing. To break the stigma surrounding mental health. Conversation is what keeps Matey alive and moves us forward as people.
BIG PLANS are being developed at a rapid rate, and soon, you will see what we can achieve together.

100 Mile Challenge.. Made Simple! 🙌
100 miles in March can seem daunting. However, when you break it down to smaller numbers, it can be done!
100 miles = 3.3 miles a day
Or
160 kilometres = 5.1 kilometres a day
Remember that every step counts.. Simply going to the shops, walking your dog, and even an evening stroll can help add the numbers to the 100-mile goal!
Remember, this is no rush, and you are not alone.
We and the community are with you 100% of the way.

I believe mental health is still a "grey area" in terms of what people feel they can and can not talk about. The statistics show that 1 in 4 people will struggle with their mental health at some point in their life, while only 1 in 6 people will speak about encountering problems. This needs to change.
I remember going through my mental health battle. Feeling shame and guilt for having these new emotions. Not feeling as if i could speak out and reach for help. Everyday was a constant battle. This is where my interest in boxing has come from. Battling my mental and physical self. Pushing myself to new barriers and beyond, and showing an audience that it is okay to not be okay at times. Talking is our way forward, and this is what makes us unite as people talking about a serious subject.
I am excited to raise money for shout. The idea that help is only a text a way is so important to me as i found talking on the phone was very intimidating (in my Personal situation at that time). The help shout can give is amazing and i truly respect and admire everything they do as a charity.
Shout is the UK's only free, confidential and 24/7 text messaging service for anyone struggling to cope with their mental health. Every 60 seconds, someone reaches out for support and has a conversation that could save their life.
£10 can pay for a conversation with someone in crisis
£25 can fund a clinician to provide expert supervision of conversations on Shout's digital mental health platform.
£250 can train a new Shout Volunteer to take life-saving conversations.
Together i truly believe that we can make mental health a normal toppic to talk about. So with that all said, why not start now.

2023 started with me not having a clue what I was doing in terms of the company, and I lost my way at times. It started with an idea, very short supply of stock, but a lot of passion and ideas. Being brutally honest I wasn’t happy with the quality of my supplies, and I worked extremely hard to gather as much money as I could to release the classics collection. The biggest company decision I had made at the time, it then became a staple for matey. Taking them along on my first ever fete. Feeling a bit nervous and even insecure, I met hundreds of people, talking about my journey, the story behind matey and why it was so important to me, it was such an honour to hear people speak about there journey and openly talk to me about what happened in there life too. Giving me more confidence and as more and more fetes went by people were loving the message matey gave. But I wanted to give more to the people who believed in the movement. Jumping to June time I decided to climb the 3 peaks for giveusashout. I was training super hard and was making good progress, but… I sprained my ancle halfway through the training. Now backlogging the roots collection. Again, it was a big decision to keep on with the 3 peaks and not to cancel but, a LOT of rehab exercises later I was seeing improvements. Now jumping to October 13th, the 3 peaks was ahead. We completed the 3 peaks in 27 hours, and I couldn’t have been prouder of my team for taking on the journey with me, I couldn’t have done it without them. Raising over £3000 for shout, and a memory I will hold very close to me for a long time to come. Shortly after Classics 2.0 was released. At this point I had met so many amazing and inspiring people, and I was given incredible opportunities like being invited to come on the radio, to go into schools and talk to children about matey, and even being invited to the Westminster Abby Christmas carol service. Opportunities I never thought I would be able to do. This all happened due to starting Matey back in November 2022. Words can’t describe how grateful I am to be able to have platform to make a change in the mental health space, yet still small but huge in heart. ❤️❤️
The Festive season is great! But it can also be tough.
This is a quick message to be mindful in these times as the festive season roles by.
For some people, this time of year can be very difficult and lonely.
Starting a conversation could mean the world to someone who may be struggling to cope during this holiday.
So next time you are out, smile at a stranger, grab a coffee with a friend, and let your family know they are loved. It could, after all, make someone's day.
All the best
Jacob & The Matey Team
Let us introduce you to Callum. He is 25 years of age, and he lives with his 2 young children and supportive partner.
In December, Callum will be taking part I an Ultra White Collar Boxing Event, and the team at Matey wanted to highlight his courage and dedication to fundraise for the mental health space.
This will be his very first time boxing ever, so he’s been doing some very intense training to prepare.
‘I am really enjoying the training, feeling the fittest I have ever felt. It’s a really intense, hardworking camp with some great fellow fighters.’
Callum is training twice a week with the camp, also doing his own training and using personal trainers to make sure that not only is he the fittest on the night. He’s gained confidence and experience with tips and tricks from more experienced boxers.
‘I am very nervous but very excited at the same time. I am loving this journey I am on at the moment, feeling the fittest I have ever felt and actually mentally in a really good place’
Callum has decided to donate the money he raises to MIND. They are fighting for mental health, support, respect and most of all fighting for all mental health sufferers.
As Callum knows people have struggled in the past and face ongoing issues with their mental health, it seemed like a perfect reason to make such a bold move to fundraise for MIND.
‘The councillors went above and beyond to do everything they could to help my friends and family, to make them aware that is it okay not to be ok. That it’s okay to open up and speak about problems.’
Although feeling a little apprehensive about his fight, overall he feels ready and excited for the event.
‘My fighting camp are a great set of people! Really friendly, easy to get along with, very supportive and always willing to help get the best of each other.’
Fundraising just £5, £10 or £20 - will put MIND information in local GP surgeries, and help answer calls to their information line, sharing support and information about help in their area.
We wish Callum all the best with his fight and thank him for the amazing support he is helping to fund.
GOOD LUCK!
